Matthew 28:16-20 says- Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. And when they saw him they worshiped him, but some doubted. And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Many churches are ignoring the command of Jesus Christ with regard to the great commission.Jesus said make disciples, not church followers, religious people or spiritual people.
I remember a song I learned in Sunday school which goes like this- “ I am the church, you are the church, we are the church together, The church is not a building, the church is not a steeple, the church is the people!
Yes indeed, the church is the people who have to be on an undertaking to make Jesus known to all the people on earth regardless of colour, creed, national boundaries or race!We need to wake up from the deep slumber we are in.
We need to let the world know about the eternity and sovereignty of God the creator of the universe. We need to serve God and glorify his name and that’s what makes life meaningful and purposeful. Anything else we achieve is of no use if we ignore the creator of this wonderful planet we live in and the entire universe! Of course we have to work hard and develop the talents God has given us and make use of it for the betterment of this world, or else we would be answerable to God Almighty! However, our prime focus should be on the creator Himself and thereby glorify His name!
Watch this video to see how someone who acted on the great commission saved a university student who was on the wrong path!
Watch this video to see how God is using that same then university student (Paul Washer) to win souls for Him and is transforming the lives of many around the world! How did this happen? When you start working on the ”Great Commission” , based on the command of Jesus, He will send The Holy Spirit to do supernatural things in peoples’ lives. Jesus said “And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
The reason many churches are shying away from “the great commission “is to be safe. As a matter of fact nobody will say to an evangelist, “. I‘ve been waiting for this moment to hear the gospel, thank you for coming and speaking to me”,when you knock on their doors or talk to them about Jesus elsewhere. Statistics shows that on an average 11 Christians die every day spreading the gospel. True Christians do not retaliate as the world does. True Christians are dead to the standards of this fallen world but have royal standards set by the King of the Universe- Jesus Christ.
The question many would ask is, “why do “these people” spread the gospel to others?”
In simple words we do NOT want our friends and fellow humans to be lost eternally. Think about it this way- you are walking on the road and a car is coming at a high speed towards you and you did not see it for some reason. Someone pulls you out of the way and you are saved!
It is the obedience to the “Great Commission”. In John 14:6 Jesus said “I am the way, the truth and the life”, no one comes to the Father except through me.” The truth is, only Jesus who is God incarnate can give eternal life. Many great teachers walked on this planet, but no one said about eternal life. If we are born in this world, even-though our physical being dies, our soul would live forever in eternity, either with Jesus Christ in heaven or with satan in hell. “Born again Christians” take the “Great Commission” very seriously because we do not want our fellow humans to leave this planet without knowing about Jesus the Messiah and accepting Him.
